ABOUT ABOUT

Philadelphia developers, engineers, architects and property owners: Are you ready for July 1, 2015?

Effective for new projects submitting on July 1, 2015, the Philadelphia Water Department (PWD) is updating its development stormwater regulations to meet Federal and State requirements under the Clean Water Act. The changes to the regulations will improve the health of Philadelphia’s rivers, minimize local flooding, and encourage the use of green infrastructure throughout the city.

Water Quality Improvements:

Each development project will be required to hold more stormwater on site, the rate of stormwater entering the sewer will be slowed, and each site will filter the dirtiest stormwater running off the site.

Business Friendly Improvements:

In addition to the regulatory changes, PWD will introduce new business-friendly improvements including a new expedited review option, simplified technical worksheets and application materials, and a new Stormwater Management Guidance Manual and website.

BIA members are invited to attend a free seminar on these changes delivered by PWD representatives at 3:30 p.m., Wednesday, May 13 at the offices of Fox Rothschild. A networking reception will follow the seminar.

PWD representatives will explain in detail the changes to the regulations, discuss their plans for procedural improvements, and answer questions. PWD and BIA member engineers will also present case studies demonstrating how real projects submitted by these firms and approved under current regulations by PWD would need to be adjusted for the July 1 regulatory update. More information about PWD’s stormwater regulation update can be found here.

Generously hosted by Fox Rothschild.
