PHILADELPHIA RISING: THE NEIGHBORHOODS
With cranes dotting the skyline and 2014 residential building permits the highest in decades, Philadelphia’s building boom is incontrovertible. The city is now faced with the challenge of managing its growth after years of managing decline. And most importantly, ensuring the current momentum benefits all Philadelphia neighborhoods.
How should a new city administration continue and build upon this momentum? How do we leverage growth to benefit all Philadelphians across the city? How do we get capital into challenged neighborhoods? How do we retain the growing millennial population? What is the right balance of market-rate and affordable housing? How do we protect longtime neighborhood residents and neighborhood character in the face of intensive development pressure?
The Building Industry Association’s 14th Annual Housing Conference will examine these complex issues with a close look at current and prospective city policies across a wide spectrum of concerns including taxes, infrastructure investment, land use, housing policy and more. Speakers include Council President Darrell L. Clarke, economists and a New York developer with extensive experience in emerging marketplaces including Brooklyn.
